Painting Gym Floor Basketball Lines
I am painting the top of a basketball key in the picture below. Note the way I am holding the quart can. It is purposefully painful and ensures you don't twist your wrist because you are constantly reminded you have a can of paint in your hand. The Red line is the side line of practice basketball and stops when meeting the main basketball lines. I have done this on over 60 basketball courts.
Laying the blue tape and how to paint are the keys to good Basketball, Volleyball and other game lines on a gym floor. The blue tape is put down with a Lining tool. It has guides for one to four inch wide lines and holders for 2 rolls of blue tape. Two men hold a string tightly down on the floor where the center of the line will be. The line is secured under one's foot standing on it. You would cut your hands trying to hold it tight enough. When the line is in the proper position a third person walks and follows the string and lays down two parrallel lines of blue tape. All the tape is laid down in the same direction for every game first. Then. all the tape is laid down for the lines going 90 degrees to the first set. Where 2 lines intersect one set is cut so it goes through and one line stops. A rod is attached to the the front wheel of the lining tool with a sliding center point to do the circles. After the tape is all down each person take a color and does all the lines for the one game which that color goes to.
